In the begining of the year 1934 A.D, the temple which had survived nine distructive earquakes was unfortunately collapsed by the destructive earthquake. After 332 years of construction the whole construction was destroyed except the ground floor. The temple’s funds were not sufficient for the reconstruction of the temple. Thus the two members of the temple Buddhi Narsingha Shakya and Dev Raj Shakya mortgaged their 23.5 for a loan of Rs 3100 from the Rana rulers.
Under the leadership of great and renown artisan at the time, pandit JOG MAN SHAKYA, with other artisans of the locality the reconstruction was initiated. After the reconstruction the teracotta left were again to construct another similar but smaller sikhar styled temple of Maya devi the mother of gautam buddha behind the mahabuddha temple. in this temple. at the north face the idol of mayadevi giving birth to siddhartha is installed. at the east face idol of Shakya Muni Buddha is installed. on the south face the idol of Khadga Yamari is installed. at the western face idol of Saraswoti is installed.
