For the maintenance and preservation of the heritage and promote tourism in this heritage site Mahabuddha temple preservation organization was established. The organization was established with objectives of maintaining the temple and promoting the temple and its significance to the world.

The organization has used the funds collected from the donations and aids from the pilgrims and tourists for the development of the temple and its environment. The organization has continuously worked for publicity of the temple through various media. The organization has also organized festivals and other programs in the locality for the promotion and publicity of the heritage site. It has successfully maintained sanitation and other needs of the tourists and pilgrims.


Due to the sun and rain and other climatic factors the temple needed to be renovated. Some of the terracotta had collapsed and somewhere herbs had grown in the temple. In 2001 A.D. after 65 years of reconstruction Mahabuddha temple preservation organization with HMG department of archeology heritage preservation workshop, Lalitpur and Lalitpur sub metropolitan city the temple was renovated with the funds collected from the donations of the tourists and pilgrims. The artists from the locality had replaced 394 buddha idols (terracotta) in the temple. The statue of Vhumisparsha Shakyamuni Buddha and Amitambha Tathagata were also renovated. In 2005 the mahabuddha temple preservation organization organized 'Mahabuddha Okubahal festival' in the whole locality
